ROLL TIDE

14 Natinal Championships - and I have been fortuante enough to wittness the last 3 in person.

I have always been an Alabama Crimson Tide Fan.  My Favorite Memories are of the Tide are on those fall afternoons and nights sitting with my Dad in front of the radio listing to John Forney and Doug Layton.   My favorite memory is of me and My Dad, Howard Fred Hornsby, in the living room floor basking in the glory as Bama took it to Southern California unveiling the Wishbone.

That was topped in 92 as I was fortunate enough to see Bama dismantle the Mighty Hurricaines. Along side was my Uncle Wallace and Doris Veazey, their son Mike and my Mother.
My Oh My I still tear up thinking of that game.  Long since then I have lost my dad, my beloved Coach and many others, but the Passion for Bama is still there.  Chills run up and down as Bama takes the field regardless of the opponent.  Now I spend most Saturdays with my Mom, Jamie Hornsby, My wife Michele and my Son Justin...watching The Tide.

Never in my wildest dreams as a child in Goodwater Alabama, did I think I would see in person Bama at the Rose Bowl win National Title, then back at the Superdome to wittness number 14 against LSU.

Of course as a fan I had my good luck pieces, be it a statue of an Elephant or a Bama Football player, and I begin to collect unique things as the years passed.  My collection of unique Memorabilia has continued to grow, as has my collection of Tide Rides.  I developed this space to share those with you.

Week 8 The Third Sat in Oct.. woops the 4th.
Before moving to this weeks game, I would be remiss without mentioning last weeks Homecoming and having The TideRides as part of the Bama Homecoming Festivities.

Being a lifetime fan, I can't tell you the thrill it is for me to be a part of this, and being the 4th year didn't loose any of the chills that simply permeate when we round the corner to University Blvd, to the delight of the thongs of fans and little ones...lined up to see the parade.  I had the good fortune of ridding with my wife, Michele this time (we are usually in different vehicles) and that made it all the more special.

The newest addition to the TideRides group.. the BIG BAMA HELMET was a success even if it did run out of gojuice toward the checkered flag..

Oh yes there was a football game too.  Bama beat the Ole Miss Black Bears (weird) 23-10.  Not much to say about the game, as the Tide didn't seem it's  usual  focused self, although the D was a better than in the SC GAME.

On to the Viles.  I was reading some posts on different boards recently and there is one Bama fan who is fond of posting "it's (insert time or day) and I still hate Tennessee".  That my friend is a real Bama Fan.  I must say I share that sentiment when the leaves start to turn and the Calendar rolls toward what was once the Annual 3rd Sat in October ... Rivalry .. which because of expansion of the SEC...scheduling etc now is not always there but is still Bama Vs Tenn.

I can hear John Forney now describing the setting in Knoxville, talking about the River.... the colors of autumn and Jerry Duncan ..talking Hate for the Vols.  Rocky Top (my least favorite song) will blast when and if Vols do something worthy.. and I will recall Jerry mentioning dropping Ole Smokey if  he had is rifle. Tongue out

As they say the past is the past, and because Tenn is having a down year, this one has lost some luster, but when they Tee it up Saturday night... all that is water under the bridge. Derek Dooley is coaching against the Tide for the first time as Head Coach of the VOLS... and bringing in a team that has played well for parts of games and not so well the other times.  Bama, still smarting from the stinging loss to South Carolina, saw the GameCocks fall to Kentucky -on the road.

While I think Bama will handle Tenn, there is always concern when these two meet.  See last year ..last second block by Terrence Cody.

Bama is still nicked up a bit.. but again, I look for the Tide to win but perhaps struggle in this the last game prior to a much needed week off.

Week 7 Bama vs Ole Miss

The Agony of Defeat !!! Well - it has been a while... Bama dropped their first game in the last 20 in Columbia Saturday as the Tide ran into a buzz-saw.  The Ole Ball Coach had his GameCocks ready and Bama ...well they didn't play well.  Not taking anything away from SC as they did play near flawless.  Final Score SC 35 Bama 21.
*****************************************************
Oh and incidentally I missed last weeks pick... the 3rd in the last 30 something Tongue out
This week is Homecoming at the Capstone, and this Bama team is dinged and banged pretty badly.  Despite that and last weeks loss Bama is a 20 point favorite over Huston Nutt's Ole Miss team.   I look for Bama to enjoy the Homecoming Festivities but to also focus on business at hand and it's continuing march to Atlanta to the SEC Championship game.  Ranked 8th in this weeks polls, Bama will have to win 'em all and have a bit of luck to make the BCS Championship game.  But I know I speak for all Bama fans when I say "it can be done".   This week I look for the Tide to get the backs going again (MIA IN SC) and roll up big yards against Ole Miss.

WEEK 6 BAMA vs South Carolina
WOW, Bama made the Gators look like a run of the mill team in the SEC.  Dominating on Offense and Defense to the tune of 31-6. (I MISSED THIS ONE A LONG WAY AND WAS GLAD)

The Tide set the pace scoring on the opening drive as the stingy D stymied Fla with an INT in the end-zone --- and the Gators never scored a TD.  Looking at the stats you would think it was much closer than it was, but Alabama clearly dominated.

And the hits just keep on coming, as The Tide travels to Columbia to take on the once beaten 19th ranked Gamecocks.  This is Alabama's 3rd straight SEC foe ranked in the top 20.
Bama is coming off a big win and this is the game all sayers were pointing to prior to the season.  SC has a steady QB, excellent WR and a freshman RB who is the real deal.  But Bama's once "questionable defense" has in the past two weeks, stepped up to the challenge.  SC was predicted by many to be very strong this year, in what many called The Ole Ball Coach's best yet at SC.  Coach Saban seemed pleased and displeased after Bama thrashed the Gators.  Pleased that the D stepped up forcing turnovers and pressuring the QB.  Both of which are critical in this game. Displeased that the Offense didn't play well for the entire game.  SC has the home field advantage and I seriously look for The Crimson Tide to have their hands full...for 3 quarters but pulling away in the 4th. OH AND FOR THE 2nd TIME IN THIS SHORT SEASON ESPN GAMEDAY WILL BE IN ATTENDANCE.
